Two post-doctoral positions (100% TV-L E131)

The fixed-term contract will be for two years initially with the possibility of extension for an additional four years. Our institute is one of the nationally and internationally leading centers in education sci- ences. As an interdisciplinary team we work in a newly equipped building located in close proximity to the historic center of Tübingen. We investigate determinants of successful teaching and learning processes using large scale assessments, longitudinal studies and randomized controlled field trials. The main areas of research are: 1. Educational Effectiveness, 2. Motivation, 3. Personality, 4. Quality of Teaching, 5. Methodology Research, 6. Competence Modelling and Research in STEM-disciplines. Holders of the positions are expected to contribute to an expansion of our research area “Educational Effectiveness”. Thematically the main focus will be within one of the following three areas; (1) design, implementation and analysis of randomized controlled field trials in schools as well as the assessment of treatment fidelity (including the further development of statistical methods), (2) research of the ef- fects of curriculum (and other educational) reforms, (3) the assessment and modelling of different aspects of competencies and education in the humanities.

Candidates are expected to contribute to the institute’s research program in further developing an integrated approach of education sciences. Additionally, we support becoming a member at the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network which is funded within the framework of the excellence initiative of the German federal and state governments ( The successful candi- dates will also be invited to join the institute’s Postdoc Academy, which prepares researchers for independent, interdisciplinary research in the field of education sciences. The training program offers workshops which focus on scientific and professional qualification, a mentoring program as well as financial support (e.g. for conferences). The teaching load is anticipated to be one course per semes- ter.

The successful candidate holds an very good PhD in psychology, education sciences, sociology or a related field and shows highly relevant work experience in education sciences. Additionally, experi- ence in acquiring third-party funding is desirable.
